Cultural Connections Buddy Program
As part of its Programming Goals, Vancouver Island University aims to strengthen its commitment to international relationships, programs and services. One way VIU is doing this, is through the Cultural Connections Buddy program (formerly called LEAP).
Cultural Connections is a program that matches International students with Canadian students. This program enhances language and cultural exchanges, promotes inter-cultural understanding, and helps internationalize the campus. Cultural Connections provides an opportunity for casual interactions between participants.
Why become a Cultural Connections participant?
- You will help international students meet Canadians, practice their English and establish contacts in Nanaimo.
- You have the opportunity to learn and practice a new language and learn about another culture.
- Both of you will learn, share and appreciate each other's cultures.
- You will gain intercultural skills, important in today's world!
Where can we meet?
Cultural Connections partners are encouraged to arrange their first meeting on campus and then make further arrangements for future meetings.
How often can we meet?
The amount of time spent with Cultural Connections partners varies with the interests, needs, type of shared activity and availability of the participants. Partners can arrange a mutually convenient meeting schedule.
